This is the highest-specified boat on our docks, and one of very few 42 GLS hulls anywhere with a freshwater-only history. Here is what a buyer should look at.
What the 42 GLS is built for
The 42 GLS is Cruisers' flagship outboard bowrider, a 42-foot day yacht made for entertaining on open water with a cabin that sleeps a couple. Length overall is 42 feet 4 inches on a 12-foot 11-inch beam, so there is real room to move at anchor with a crowd aboard. With 1,200 horsepower on the transom it runs in the low 50-MPH range while keeping the quiet, low-maintenance running that modern V12 outboards are known for.
The engines: twin Mercury Verado V12 600
Two Mercury Verado V12 600 outboards sit on the transom with 135 hours between them. The V12 600 is Mercury's largest outboard, a 7.6-liter V12 with a steerable gearcase and a two-speed transmission. For a Great Lakes buyer that means big-boat speed and range without a diesel engine room to service, winterize, and insure. On a 2024 hull, these engines have years of low-hour running ahead of them.
Docking and sitting at anchor
Joystick piloting ties both engines and the bow thruster into one control, so moving a 42-foot boat sideways into a slip is manageable single-handed. Skyhook uses GPS and the engines to hold position and heading while you wait on a fuel dock or a bridge. The factory-fit Seakeeper 6 gyro takes the roll out at anchor. On a raft-up or a lunch stop in an open Lake Erie anchorage, that is the option that changes how the day feels.
The cockpit: built for a crowd
The cockpit is the point of this boat. It has an aft U-lounge with a power-adjustable sunpad, a bow J-lounge with a table and filler cushions, and a wet bar with a sink, a refrigerator, and bar stools. Power beach doors open on both sides at the waterline. SeaDek runs throughout the cockpit and swim platforms, a walk-through windshield connects the helm to the bow, and Rockford Fosgate audio plus cockpit air conditioning round it out. The powered sunroof hardtop opens the helm to the sky or closes it against weather.
Belowdecks
The cabin is a genuine weekender. There is a convertible forward stateroom, a full-beam mid-cabin, and an enclosed head with a separate shower stall. The galley has a microwave, a refrigerator, and solid-surface counters, plus a Samsung TV and cabin air conditioning. A 9kW Kohler diesel generator (155 hours) and dual 30-amp shore power keep everything running at the dock or on the hook.
Why the freshwater history matters
Saltwater corrodes engines, hardware, and cooling systems. This 42 GLS has run in freshwater only, on Lake Erie, so the outboards, the electronics, and the underwater hardware have not fought salt. On a boat carrying this much equipment, a Seakeeper, a generator, and joystick-integrated engines, that clean history is worth real money at survey time.
