Cleveland Boat Brokerage on Lake Erie
Northern Boat Brokerage is headquartered at 2814 Detroit Ave in Cleveland's Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood — half a mile from the Cuyahoga River mouth and the western edge of the Cleveland harbor basin. This isn't a satellite office. It's where the business runs.
Cleveland is the largest boat market on Ohio's Lake Erie shoreline. The harbor has deep water access, a concentration of marinas from Edgewater to Bratenahl, and a buyer pool that draws from Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Medina counties. It's also one of the Great Loop's primary staging points via the Erie Canal — which means seasonal transient traffic brings buyers and sellers from outside the region into the market every spring and fall.
The Cleveland Market
Used boat inventory in the Cleveland market runs heavy on cruisers, cabin boats, and walleye rigs. The typical seller is a boater who kept their vessel at Edgewater Marina, Lakewood Yacht Club, or one of the Bratenahl or Gordon Park facilities. The typical buyer is within 30 miles and already active in the Lake Erie boating community.
Pricing on the Cleveland waterfront reflects freshwater condition premiums — Lake Erie boats don't deal with the hull fouling, saltwater corrosion, or osmotic blistering common in coastal markets. A well-maintained Great Lakes boat often commands a stronger position than comparable saltwater hours would suggest. Buyers who understand this tend to find better value here than on ocean-facing markets.
Seasonal timing matters in this market. Listings that go live in February and March — before the Cleveland Boat Show traffic turns into active buyers — consistently move faster than boats listed after Memorial Day. By late June, serious buyers have already committed or are waiting for fall pricing.
What We Handle in Cleveland
We handle the full transaction from initial pricing consult through title transfer at the Ohio DNR. That includes market analysis and pricing based on current Cleveland and Lake Erie comparable sales, professional photography and listing syndication across our website, Facebook Marketplace, Boatzon, and Worldwide Yachtsman, buyer screening and showing coordination, offer management and negotiation, lien payoff coordination for financed vessels, and Ohio title transfer and USCG documentation when applicable.
Our Cleveland office is the primary point of contact for all transactions, regardless of where the boat is physically located. If the vessel is in the water at a Cleveland marina or sitting in dry storage in Westlake or North Olmsted, we can work it.
No Upfront Fees
We earn commission only when your boat sells. There's no listing fee, no marketing retainer, and no charge for the title work. Our commission is based on the final sale price — contact us to discuss current rates.
Cleveland Marina Relationships
We work regularly with facilities across the Cleveland waterfront including Edgewater Marina, Lakewood Yacht Club, Weaver's Cove Marina, and marinas in the Bratenahl and Gordon Park areas. These relationships matter when it comes to coordinating showings, launching for sea trials, and understanding slip inventory that affects buyer decisions.
